Tim Mehaffey (CEO)
While most toddlers his age were playing with colorful toys, Tim Mehaffey was fascinated by simple building blocks, creating elementary structures.
In elementary and later, high school, Tim turned his talent for making things into a hobby, often bringing home sophisticated projects that left little doubt about where the young man was headed in life.
By the time the Florida native graduated from Atlantic Vocational Tech in 1984, Tim was already an experienced carpenter and metal framer. By the tender age of 21, he was a senior project superintendent, having worked on a large number of residential, medical, commercial and industrial projects. His resume includes senior field positions with some of Florida’s largest and most prestigious construction companies, including Wynn Builders, Kaufman Lynn and Anderson Moore.
During those early years, Tim played a major role in the successful completion of a number of prominent projects, including state-of-the-art buildings for Florida Atlantic University, numerous bank branch offices, a major office/warehouse complex in the Jupiter Park of Commerce and the sprawling Boca Town Center, a $15 million, 287,000 square-foot retail center.
During a construction slump in 2001, the young, highly-paid construction executive decided he had put in enough time working for others and now it was time to set off on his own. He placed an ad in a local newspaper offering his services as an experienced carpenter and general repair expert and almost immediately his phone went into hyper-drive.
"It was unbelievable," Tim recalls. "In no time, we had a staff of 15 professional carpenters, a fleet of trucks and more business than we could handle and we didn't even have a business plan!" Beginning as a residential contractor and a State-Registered Builder, Mehaffey Construction Group, Inc. soon evolved into a sought-after commercial and industrial contractor, with projects throughout Southeast Florida.
Today, Tim is a State of Florida Certified General & Roofing Contractor with the distinction of being one of the relatively few individuals to pass the grueling state examinations on the first try. He has personally supervised the construction of numerous facilities for national franchise operations, banks, restaurants and manufacturing companies.
His business philosophy? Simple: "I consistently give my clients more than they've paid for. I don't cut corners and I don't lie."
Teresa Mehaffey (MGR)
Growing up in a household that included six women -- herself, her mother and four sisters -- taught Teresa Mehaffey the importance of the "three C's": consideration, cooperation and compassion.
Florida Native, Teresa Mehaffey is a partner and Vice President of Mehaffey Construction Group, Inc. and supervises the numerous day-to-day activities of this busy firm, including customer service, invoicing, accounts payable and general office management. She has been an integral part of her husband Tim's contracting company almost from its beginning.
"Growing up with four sisters and a mother who is a business executive is a unique learning experience," she recalls. "Naturally, there was the usual 'sibling rivalry' but we always pulled together as a family, and that was the most important lesson of all," she says.
Another major force in her life is her dad, who has retired from Florida Power & Light after a notable 50-year career.
Teresa's early career in Florida included positions with the West Palm Beach Court System and American Express in Plantation, where she was a customer service representative for almost ten years.
In 1999, Teresa joined Liberty Medical Supply Co. in Port St. Lucie as a customer service rep, later transitioning into sales of diabetic supplies. She came on board as a partner in Mehaffey Construction Group, Inc. in 2003 "with no formal training" for the job but with a willingness to learn and help the young company grow.
On weekends, the Mehaffey's enjoy riding their Harley Davidson motorcycles on short excursions. Teresa also enjoys horses, boating and skiing "when we get the chance."
